With Spanish holidays still on the backburner for the time being, one woman decided to create her very own tapas spread, with an interesting British take.
Natalie Bland, from Sunderland, decided to create a huge British tapas spread for four of her mates, made up of British favourites, from chicken dippers to good old turkey twizzlers. Soz, Jamie Oliver.
The 29-year-old spent £29.30 on the goods, before cooking them in the oven and laying them out on foil, covering her entire kitchen table.
“This shows you can have fun at home, you don’t have to go to Spain. Obviously Spain is on the amber list at the moment and that’s one of the main holiday destinations for people in this country,” Natalie said.
“We’ve all tried to be a bit more creative about what we’re doing indoors or in our gardens to have more fun at home. We wanted to show a way you can still enjoy yourself on a budget. Sometimes it’s a bit out-the-box but it’s a laugh.”
The feast included bags of Doritos, dipping sauces, waffles, curly fries, spaghetti and sausages, potato smileys, chicken dippers and more, coming to a whopping total of 18,000 calories. Between five of them, that works out at 3,600 calories each, but we’re not here to judge.
Natalie took to TikTok to show off her carb-laden spread, however people have been left divided over whether it was absolute genius, or just pure greed.
“The ‘British tapas’ definitely rivals a Spanish tapas because it reminds me of my childhood. However I’ve heard it called ‘council estate’ tapas,” Natalie said.
“I would potentially host another ‘British Tapas’ night for guests again, but I would need another oven, I’ve only got one oven and it was like a production line.”
